Teach Your Students Through the Arts
Short Stories with Activities

THE WHEEL of ARTS is a hands-on program designed to teach all subjects through the arts. It implements and integrates music, art, dance and drama through activities that accompany each short story.

THE WHEEL of ARTS nurtures creativity while learning about Science, Math, English, Physical Education, and Music. The program allows each student to express himself or herself using their individual talents.

There are over one hundred pages of stories with activities. Each story is filled with rich and interesting information and experiences, mostly from the author's childhood.

All of the stories are interchangeable. Any number of students can work on one activity, i.e. background music, art, a commercial, a skit, a dance, or designing costumes. Students may also choose to work individually, i.e. drawing a picture, composing a song, or writing a story about the story. Poetry and stories may be printed out and given to the authors. Submit the works for publication by the school paper.

The program can be used for grades 3 through 8. Students were in my class for 2 1/2 hours. The first 2 hours were used for working on their selected activities. The last 1/2 hour was devoted to their presentations. The projects can extend to more than one class session.

Each student has a kit comprised of scissors, junk jewelry, old clothes, hats, scarves, needle/thread, embroidery floss, glue, markers, cardboard, material, buttons, ties, and some makeup. The kits were left in the classroom until the next session.
